The Bank of Ghana has announced the suspension of the proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers following public concerns and the need for further stakeholder consultation.
In a press release issued on May 26, 2026, the Central Bank stated that Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) has been directed to pause the implementation of the charge, which was originally scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision was taken to allow for broader consultation on the proposed fee and its possible impact on consumers and the mobile financial services sector.
The Bank of Ghana explained that the move demonstrates its commitment to ensuring fairness in the introduction of charges within the digital financial ecosystem while also protecting consumers and supporting their financial wellbeing.
The statement was issued by the Communications Department of the Bank of Ghana.
