The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has described the death of the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, as a major loss toOrganised Labour and Ghana’s public service.
Dr Bampoe Addo died on Friday, August 21, 2026.
In a tribute issued on Sunday, August 23, the Chief Executive of the FWSC, Dr George Smith-Graham, said the late CLOGSAG executive was more than an office holder, describing him as a formidable voice in Ghana’s labour relations landscape.
According to him, Dr Bampoe Addo was a committed advocate for fairness and the welfare of workers and played an important role in engagements between labour and government.
“His passing, therefore, represents a significant loss not only to CLOGSAG but also to Organised Labour, the public service, the social partnership community, and Ghana as a whole,” Dr Smith-Graham said.
He noted that the institutional responsibilities of the FWSC and CLOGSAG sometimes placed them on opposite sides of the negotiating table, but said Dr Bampoe Addo maintained mutual respect and a shared understanding of the importance of social dialogue.
Dr Smith-Graham also recalled Dr Bampoe Addo’s active participation in the FWSC’s stakeholder engagement on the establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC) at the Lancaster Hotel shortly before his death.
He said the late CLOGSAG Executive Secretary was vibrant, passionate, articulate and intellectually engaging during the discussions, where he made important contributions to the emerging IPEC framework.
The FWSC said his contributions to the national conversation on public-sector compensation and the establishment of IPEC would remain part of that ongoing process.
Dr Smith-Graham extended condolences to the family of Dr Bampoe Addo, the leadership and members of CLOGSAG, Organised Labour, his colleagues and friends.
