The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their respective weaknesses, saying the NDC is weak in democracy while the NPP is weak in patriotism.
Speaking in Parliament, Bagbin stated that the toxic political system in Ghana is a major obstacle to good governance, and it’s time for the two parties to introspect and address their shortcomings.
Bagbin emphasized that the NDC needs to work on its democratic principles, while the NPP should focus on cultivating patriotism. He urged both parties to take a hard look at themselves and make necessary adjustments to strengthen Ghana’s governance structure.
The Speaker also reflected on his leadership style, saying he has always spoken truth to power and will continue to do so to improve Parliament’s effectiveness. He distanced himself from the current Minority Leader’s behavior, Afenyo-Markin, despite the latter’s claims of inspiration.
Bagbin reaffirmed his commitment to making Ghana’s Parliament a skilled and effective institution, capable of driving the country’s development. He pledged to work harder to achieve this goal, ensuring that Parliament becomes a beacon of good governance.
