Baba Yara Was Given Temporary Approval Only For Nigeria World Cup Qualifiers – Henry Asante Twum
The Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has clarified the situation surrounding the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for 2025 African cup of nation qualifiers.
According to the GFA Communications Director, the Kumasi-based stadium was granted only temporary approval by the Confederation of African Football to host Ghana’s 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria.
CAF had deemed Baba Yara Sports stadium unfit for international matches. The ban comes in the wake of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Ghana and Angola held on September 5, 2024.
The poor state of the pitch not only affects the quality of the game but also poses a risk to the players’ safety. This has forced CAF to take a firm stance against the negligence displayed by the National Sports Authority which has been responsible for the maintenance of the stadium.
This development has stirred both concern and curiosity among football enthusiasts and stakeholders. It raises questions about the state of other sports facilities in the country and the overall management of sports infrastructure.
