The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, is expected to be sworn into office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Baba Jamal secured victory in the Ayawaso East by-election held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, winning the seat for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a Facebook post on Monday, March 9, announcing the swearing-in ceremony, Baba Jamal said he was deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve the people of the constituency.
He expressed his readiness to work with his constituents to build a brighter future for the area.
“Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he said.
In the by-election, Baba Jamal polled 10,884 votes to defeat his main contender, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 4,009 votes.
Other candidates in the race included independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda, who garnered 1,885 votes; while Ibrahim Idrissu secured 43 votes; and Kanor David, obtained 104 votes.
A total of 16,928 valid votes were cast in the election, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 17,048.
The by-election was organised to fill the vacancy created following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.
With his swearing-in, Baba Jamal is expected to formally take his seat in Parliament and represent the people of Ayawaso East.
