Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ayawaso Central Constituency, led by their parliamentary candidate Abdul Rauf Tubazu, recently organized a walk to canvass for votes ahead of the December general elections.
The event served not only as a rally to energize party supporters but also as an opportunity to introduce Mr. Tubazu to constituents and share the NDC’s message of change and progress.
In an interview at the Alajo electoral area after the walk, Ayawaso Central Constituency Youth Organizer Abdullah Azorka spoke on the importance of such community engagements. He emphasized that activities like these walks help mobilize the party’s youth base, many of whom feel motivated by public gatherings but may not engage in traditional street campaigning. “Events like this walk encourage and energize our youth.
Today’s turnout is proof of the strong support we have in Ayawaso Central,” he said. Azorka expressed confidence that the NDC would win both the parliamentary and presidential seats in Ayawaso Central, with the party determined to break the political status quo.“These walks are just one step in mobilizing our base and communicating our message to the youth.
This Sunday, we’re continuing our efforts, reaching out to people in ghettos, markets, and every corner of the constituency,” Azorka added. He passionately affirmed the NDC’s goal to “break the chain” of political dominance in the area, stop the “incompetence and laziness,” and restore dignity to both the constituency and Ghana’s democracy.
Mrs. Nancy Tedeku Mary, the Women’s Organizer for Ayawaso Central, also commented on the walk’s success, describing it as a strong call for change. She criticized the current Member of Parliament, whom she noted is rarely present in the constituency and lacks familiarity with the community’s needs.
“The MP only shows up every four years to hand out money, but he’s absent when it comes to real work for the people,” she remarked. In contrast, she praised Mr. Tubazu’s ongoing efforts, mentioning his recent initiative to install roofing for the longstanding night market, benefiting local traders.“Our MP’s time is over,” she continued.
“Mr. Tubazu knows Ayawaso Central because he was born and raised here. He’s already doing more for us than others have. He’ll create jobs for the youth if elected, something we desperately need.”
Mrs. Mary urged voters not to make a mistake at the polls and instead to support Mr. Tubazu. “When you go to vote, look for the umbrella symbol; it’s under number 3,” she said, underscoring the significance of electing a candidate who understands and cares for the constituency.
