Axel Tuanzebe, a professional footballer currently with Burnley, is pursuing legal action against his former club, Manchester United.
“Axel Tuanzebe is filing a lawsuit against Manchester United and is claiming more than £1M in damages.”
The core of his claim centers on allegations of medical negligence that he argues severely impacted his career trajectory.
The defender contends that Manchester United failed to address a serious injury with the necessary urgency and expertise.
“The defender accuses his former club of harming his career by not treating an injury ‘quickly’ and ‘appropriately.'”
The injury in question originated in January 2020, when Tuanzebe sustained stress fractures in his spine. “In January 2020, he suffered stress fractures in the back of the spine.” These fractures, initially acute, allegedly worsened over time due to inadequate management, eventually becoming chronic by July 2022 after a subsequent injury. “They became chronic in July 2022 following another injury.”
Central to Tuanzebe’s legal argument is the assertion that timely and proper medical intervention could have prevented long-term damage and allowed him to continue performing at the elite level.
“The complaint states: ‘It is highly likely that appropriate treatment plans would have allowed the claimant to avoid the pain and discomfort described and would have enabled him to play professional football at the highest level without restriction or hindrance.'”
As a result of these alleged failures, Tuanzebe is seeking substantial compensation. “Tuanzebe, who now plays for Burnley, expects to receive damages exceeding £1,000,000.”
The case underscores the high stakes of medical care in professional sports, where lapses in treatment can have profound and lasting consequences for an athlete’s livelihood and career.
