AUDIO: Most Prices Have Gone Down and the Impact Is Being Felt – Trade Minister

ACCRA, Ghana, 21 January: The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has said that the prices of most food items have declined, and Ghanaians are already feeling the positive impact.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, 21st January, the Minister cited food items such as konkonte, yam, and palm fruits as clear examples of commodities whose prices have seen noticeable reductions in recent times.

Hon. Ofosu-Agyare also revealed plans by her ministry to introduce a digital price-comparison application, which will allow shops and traders to advertise their prices.

This, she explained, will enable consumers to compare prices and make informed purchasing decisions.

She emphasized that the government does not intend to control prices, noting that price controls come with significant challenges.

Instead, the ministry’s approach is to promote price transparency and competition, empowering consumers to choose the most affordable options available in the market.

According to the Minister, this strategy will help protect consumers while supporting a fair and competitive trading environment across the country.
