[Audio] Government must engage teacher unions on 10% basic salary deduction on bungalow- GNAT chairman fumes

Chairman of Ghana National Association  of Teachers in Nkwanta north and south district in the Oti Region, Mr Maxwell Dzoko has question ministry of Education and the Ghana education service intention to implement 10% basic salary deduction for teachers in government bungalows.

According to him, the policy is defective and that is why it was not implemented since 2006, he has therefore question the fairness between the teachers in the cities and villages with the same qualification and salary to pay the same amount of rent.

He made this known in an exclusive interview with Ahotor fm reporter, Moses Kwasi Hotor with regards to a letter form GES directing those occupying government bungalows to pay rent starting from March 1st, 2022.

Mr Maxwell Dzoko who is also the headmaster for Adom model school in Nkwanta has also raised the issue of government unwillingness to pay 20% allowance for teachers who accept posting to rural areas since 2010 under single spine policy.

He therefore accused the government for disrespecting teachers and ignoring their plight.

He however called on GES as a matter of urgency withdraw the letter and invite teacher union for dialogue, according to him, GES cannot take arbitral decision without the input of stakeholders.
