AUDIO: Abraham Koomson Cautions NDC Against Arrogance and Abuse of Power

TEMA, Ghana, 20 December: The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has cautioned the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) against becoming arrogant, complacent, or disconnected from the people now that it is in power.

According to Mr. Koomson, the party must remain humble and continuously engage with the citizens who entrusted it with the mandate to govern.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, December 20, Mr. Koomson stressed that political power is given by God and the people, warning that any attempt to abuse that power could have serious consequences for the party.

“The NDC needs to know that God gave them this power. They should not get to a point where they think, ‘we are now in charge, we don’t care, we are in power so what can you do?’ If they start thinking that way, I’m telling you, it will not be good for them,” he said.

Mr. Koomson also reaffirmed an earlier call he made this year for the NDC to establish strong grassroots support structures across the country as people are lamenting for being sidelined.

He noted that effective governance requires accessible systems that bring government closer to the people, rather than expecting citizens to seek solutions only at the Jubilee House.

“If the NDC wants to remain in power, there must be proper structures at the grassroots level. You cannot expect everyone to come to the Jubilee House,” he added.

He further warned that history offers clear lessons on the dangers of abusing political power, stressing that no government that has misused authority has ended well.

According to him, the NDC must therefore exercise restraint, humility, and responsibility in the use of the power entrusted to it by Ghanaians.
