ACCRA, Ghana, 2nd November: The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has invested €1.5 million in new equipment to establish a security printing press as part of efforts to expand its operations and compete in the specialised printing industry.
Managing Director of the company, Nana Kwasi Boaitey Esq., announced this during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency.
He said the equipment, which was expected to arrive in Ghana in November 2026, would pave the way for the establishment of a security press to complement the company’s existing offset and digital printing facilities.
According to him, the new facility is expected to position the company to compete in the printing of sensitive documents, including cheque books and potentially passports.
Mr. Boaitey explained that the investment forms part of a broader modernisation programme aimed at transforming the company into a more competitive and technologically advanced printing institution.
He disclosed that when the current management assumed office in February 2025, the country’s premier publishing and printing house did not have a digital printing press, putting it at a disadvantage in the increasingly competitive industry.
Management subsequently mobilised resources to establish a digital press, which was inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2026.
He said the facility is equipped with the necessary machinery to support modern digital printing operations.
The company has also undertaken significant improvements to its physical infrastructure, including the refurbishment of its frontage and replacement of signage to strengthen its corporate image.
Mr. Boaitey further disclosed that the company had introduced digital platforms to improve accessibility and customer experience.
Among these is an electronic gazette platform that allows customers to apply for gazettes online without physically visiting the company’s offices.
The company has also introduced an electronic bookshop through which members of the public can purchase Acts of Ghana online and have them delivered to their locations.
He said the investments were made despite the significant liquidity challenges inherited by the current management.
The Managing Director expressed confidence that the establishment of the security press, alongside the existing digital and offset printing facilities, would strengthen the company’s capacity to undertake more specialised printing assignments and generate additional revenue.
He added that management remains committed to positioning the Ghana Publishing Company as a leading player in the printing and publishing industry.
