The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in the robbery and murder of two mobile money vendors in the region. The suspects, whose apprehension marks a significant breakthrough in the case, were taken into custody on March 21, 2025, as police intensified efforts to capture a fourth accomplice still at large.
Suspects in Custody
The arrested suspects have been identified as Charles Kwame Danso, 23, alias “Kwame Charles” or “Miami,” Philip Foujour, 29, and Samuel Addae Mensah, 42. They were apprehended during coordinated operations at Pankrono and Atimatim. The trio is believed to have played key roles in two separate but equally devastating incidents that shocked the Ashanti Region.
Tragic Incidents
The first incident occurred on February 13, 2025, at Kroforom around noon, where a mobile money vendor, Patricia Nimako, tragically lost her life during a violent robbery. The assailants fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The second incident took place nearly a month later, on the night of March 10, 2025, in Kwadaso. The victim, Gideon Owusu Sarpong, also known as “Junior,” was attacked in his residence, where he was robbed and fatally wounded.
Manhunt for Fourth Suspect
The police are actively pursuing a fourth suspect, identified as Martin Amoah, alias Augustine Amoah, or “Baba Macho.” Intelligence suggests he may be hiding in Kumasi, Dunkwa-on-Offin, Diaso, or Accra. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for assistance in locating him.
Citizens with any information on Amoah’s whereabouts are encouraged to call the police through the toll-free numbers 191, 112, or 18555 (MTN and Telecel). Anonymity and confidentiality are assured for all informants.
Police Commitment to Justice
Deputy Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, who leads the Ashanti Regional Police Command, emphasized the dedication of his team to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
“We are resolute in our commitment to bringing all responsible individuals to justice,” he stated in an official release. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in helping us apprehend the remaining suspect. Together, we can ensure the safety and security of our communities.”
Community Vigilance
As investigations progress, the police have called for heightened community vigilance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. They have also reassured the public of their readiness to protect lives and property while strengthening security measures in the region.
This development is a reminder of the dangers faced by mobile money vendors and the need for increased security for those in the profession. The public and law enforcement agencies must collaborate to combat such heinous crimes effectively.
The suspects currently in custody are expected to be arraigned before court soon to face charges for their alleged involvement in the crimes. Meanwhile, the hunt for “Baba Macho” continues, with authorities determined to ensure he faces justice.
