Ashanti North Police Investigate Officer Over Alleged Defilement and Incest Case

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an alleged defilement and incest case involving a police officer stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Unit at Mampong on May 9, 2026, the officer, identified as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District.

The statement disclosed that the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.

The complainant alleged that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.

Police said following the report, the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to assist with ongoing investigations.

The release further noted that on February 20, 2026, the inspector reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office where he was arrested and cautioned. Investigators subsequently took a statement from him.

According to the police, the suspect denied all allegations levelled against him and was later granted enquiry bail with instructions to report periodically to assist with investigations.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command also confirmed that the officer is currently being interdicted to allow for further investigations into the matter.

The Command assured the public of its commitment to conducting thorough investigations and indicated that further updates would be communicated as the case progresses.
