The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has appealed to his constituents to remain calm following growing tensions over the absence of Ashaiman representatives in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Frustration among some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in Ashaiman escalated into protests, with irate supporters vandalizing the constituency chairman’s office and threatening to block the Accra-Tema Motorway as a demonstration of their dissatisfaction.
The protesters argue that despite Ashaiman’s overwhelming support for the NDC in past elections, the constituency has been sidelined in government appointments.
Addressing journalists, MP Ernest Henry Norgbey strongly condemned the acts of vandalism and urged residents to exercise restraint.
He emphasized that violent protests and destruction of party property would not solve the issue, and he assured them that their concerns had been noted.
“I understand the frustrations of our people, but I urge everyone to remain calm and patient,” Norgbey said.
“The government is still in the process of making appointments, and I am confident that Ashaiman will not be overlooked. Let’s support the administration as it works to reset the economy and deliver on its promises.”
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to engaging with party leadership and the presidency to ensure that Ashaiman receives its fair share of representation in government. He also called on security agencies to restore order and prevent further unrest.
