The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Candidate for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has stated that he will never distribute money to his constituents in exchange for votes.
Instead, he is pledging to invest in the education of the children in his constituency.
Speaking at a donation ceremony in his constituency, where he donated desks to some schools on Wednesday, Muntaka emphasised that his priority will be long-term development rather than short-term financial handouts.
“There will never be a time for me to share monies to anyone. It is my responsibility to think of you and your children’s future. It is insulting to give money to anyone. The youth need education to better their lives. It is inappropriate to give GH¢200, GH¢500 and even GH¢1000 to individuals. These monies will not solve their problems,” he stated.
Muntaka also urged his political party members, particularly in the Zongo communities, to be cautious and responsible in their activities as the general elections approach.
He stressed the need for unity and peaceful engagement to ensure a successful election process.
“Let us seek for peace during this year’s election in our Zongo Communities. Insults, and skirmishes all come from Zongo communities. It would have been important for both the NDC and NP to process what the Zongo communities have gained from our democracy.
“We would have appreciated the consequences of our actions. Parties come to our Zongo communities to recruit our members for their various activities. Politicians will only visit you, once after any bad incident,” he stated.
