American rapper ASAP Rocky has chosen not to testify in his ongoing trial for assault charges.
Facing two counts of assault with semiautomatic firearm, Rocky previously pleaded not guilty to the felony charges linked to an alleged 2021 incident involving his former childhood friend, Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli.
On February 11, the rapper invoked his Fifth Amendment right, opting to remain silent as his defense team rested their case.
This decision sparked significant online debate, particularly since he had previously rejected a plea deal that included a 180-day jail sentence and a suspended term. Now, if convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison.
Social Media Reactions
“They’re trying to bait him. Smart move not to get up there.”
“He should’ve taken the plea! I think he’s going to jail ”
“He messed up by rejecting the deal, smh.”
“The witness is alive to testify against him… he already lost and doesn’t know it.”
“He didn’t testify because the prosecution did a terrible job, and A$AP Relli was caught lying on the stand. Once a witness is caught lying, their credibility is shot. If Rocky testified, he would have been cross-examined, which could have been risky.
The prosecution already damaged their own case—no need to help them. Smart move. I predict a not-guilty verdict.”
With the trial now in its final stages, all eyes are on the jury’s decision, which could have serious consequences for the rapper’s future.
