The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has imposed a GHS 20,000 fine on Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, along with a formal warning, following an official ruling announced on January 30, 2026. The penalty must be paid in full within 14 days from the date the club received formal notification of the decision.

The sanction arises from the inappropriate and unacceptable behavior exhibited by Asante Kotoko supporters toward match officials during their Ghana Premier League fixture against Dreams FC.
This match took place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, where the club’s passionate fanbase—known as the Porcupine Warriors—engaged in misconduct that violated the competition’s rules and standards of conduct.
Reports consistently describe the fans’ actions as directed specifically at the referees and other officials, creating an environment deemed unsafe or disrespectful.
In its decision, the GFA Disciplinary Committee held the club strictly liable for failing to adequately control or prevent such supporter behavior, a common principle in football governance where clubs are responsible for the conduct of their followers at home games.
Beyond the immediate financial penalty, Asante Kotoko has been placed on notice: the committee explicitly cautioned that any repeat incidents of supporter-related misconduct—or similar breaches—will trigger significantly stricter measures.
These could include escalated fines, partial or full stadium closures, point deductions from the league table, or other escalated disciplinary actions as deemed appropriate under GFA regulations.
This development highlights the GFA’s continued emphasis on promoting discipline, respect for match officials, and overall safety within the Ghana Premier League. Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most storied and supported clubs, now faces the challenge of reinforcing fan education and crowd management protocols to avoid harsher repercussions in future matches.
The ruling aligns with recent trends where the association has addressed fan excesses across various teams to maintain the integrity of the competition.
