Asake, Wizkid, and Tems Bag 2025 AMAs Nomination: Afrobeats Stars Shine on Global Stage

Nigerian music sensations Asake, Wizkid, and Tems earn prestigious nominations in the 2025 American Music Awards under the Favorite Afrobeats Artist category. This marks another major milestone for the genre, and all eyes are now on Las Vegas, where the winners will be revealed on May 26.

From humble beginnings to international recognition, each of these artists has a unique story that reflects the power of passion, persistence, and creativity.

Asake, often called the “Street King,” started off as a dancer and theater performer before bursting into the music scene. With a background in dramatic arts, he fused Fuji, Amapiano, and Afrobeats to create his signature sound. Songs like Peace Be Unto You (PBUY) and Amapiano have made him a fan favorite not just in Nigeria, but around the world.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, began his musical journey at the tender age of 11 in a church choir. He later shot to fame with the hit single Holla at Your Boy and went on to make history with global hits like Essence, Ojuelegba, and Come Closer. His influence in bringing Afrobeats to the mainstream is unmatched.

Tems, the soulful songstress with a voice that soothes and stirs, started her journey producing music in her bedroom. With no big label backing in her early days, she created a buzz with her breakout single Try Me. Her collaboration with Wizkid on Essence skyrocketed her to global fame, followed by features with global icons like Drake and Rihanna.

Their nominations are more than just personal wins — they symbolize the triumph of African talent on the world’s biggest stages.

One thing is clear: no matter who wins on May 26 in Las Vegas, Afrobeats has already won.
