Asafo Powell is in Ghana to inspire every Ghanaian doing Sports – GOC Boss Ben Nunoo Mensah.

The President of the Ghana Olympics Committee, Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah expressed that the presence of Asafa Powell in Ghana is to inspire every Ghanaian to do Sports.

In an interview, GOC President Asafo Powell explained that Asafo Powell should have been here in Ghana long ago but due to Covid, he and his family were delayed and his presence in Ghana is to inspire every youth doing Sports.

“Well, it’s been on the table for a long time but for the covid, Asafa and Alisha would have been here much much longer, what we are looking for is a Sports icon who can motivate young Athletics “.

“Asafa  is here to inspire every Ghanaian doing Sports,  every child on the Street who want to take up sports, he is here to inspire you, Asafa is here for everybody ” .- he added

Asafa Powell is a retired Jamaican sprinter who specialised in the 100 metres.

He set the 100 metres world record twice, between June 2005 and May 2008 with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds.

Powell has consistently broken the 10-second barrier in competition, with his personal best of 9.72 s ranking fourth on the all-time time list of men’s 100-metre athletes.

As of 1 September 2016, Powell has broken the ten- seconds barrier more times than anyone else—97 times.

He currently holds the world record for the 100-year – dash with a time of 9.09 s, set on 27 May 2010 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, he won a gold medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay.
