Arise for Change Demands Transparent Probe into Election-Related Killings

A pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, Arise for Change for Economic Growth, has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into election-related killings that occurred in various constituencies and other parts of the country during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Tamale, the Chairman of the group, Mahama Idrisu, stressed the need for an impartial probe to ensure justice for the victims and their families.

He emphasized that the loss of innocent lives during electoral processes undermines Ghana’s democracy and must not be overlooked.

“We cannot continue to have elections marred by violence, with lives lost and families left in pain, while perpetrators go unpunished. It is time for an independent and transparent investigation to bring those responsible to justice,” Idrisu stated.

The group further accused state institutions of failing to act decisively in previous cases of electoral violence, leading to a culture of impunity. They urged the government, security agencies, and international organizations to take a keen interest in the matter to restore public confidence in the electoral system.

Arise for Change also called on civil society organizations, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to add their voices to the demand for justice, insisting that electoral violence should have no place in Ghana’s democratic process.

The demand for an investigation comes amid heightened political tensions following the 2024 elections, with concerns over election security and the accountability of security forces during voting periods. The group reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for electoral justice and vowed to continue pressing for action until justice is served.
