The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially released the ballot statistics that will guide the printing of ballots for both the presidential and parliamentary elections ahead of the 2024 December polls.
This announcement comes at a time when preparations for the election are in full swing, with the EC working to ensure that all logistics are in place for a smooth, transparent, and efficient electoral process.
In a statement on Monday, October 14, the EC detailed the process it followed in arriving at the final figures for the printing of ballots, emphasising that the statistics were derived with great care and precision.
Releasing the ballot statistics was one of the key demands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in addition to the party’s demands for a forensic audit to be conducted on the 2024 voters register.
Below is the EC’s statement.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the release of the ballot statistics to guide the printing of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Ballots ahead of the 2024 General Election.
The Electoral Commission hereby publishes the ballot statistics to guide the printing of the Presidential and Parliamentary election ballots ahead of the 2024 General Election.
In arriving at the ballot statistics, the Commission took into account the total number of voters on the 2024 Provisional Voters Register (PVR) plus a two percent increase.
While the Commission welcomes and encourages a total voter turnout on Election Day, it also recognizes that not every registered voter will vote in the 2024 General Election.
The Commission is confident that the methodology relied upon, that is utilizing the total number of voters on the PVR plus a two percent increase to guide the printing of ballots, is adequate and will not result in shortfalls or unnecessary wastage. This methodology of adding a percentage increase has been used by the Commission to guide the printing of ballots since 1992.
We entreat the Public to trust us to deliver on our mandate.
