Nigerian musician Seun Kuti challenged traditional perceptions of God and religion as depicted by Western and Abrahamic faiths.
Kuti criticized the portrayal of a “white God” in these traditions, arguing that such a depiction is problematic in the recent episode of the Zero Conditions Podcast.
He expressed disbelief in the concept of God as presented by Western and Abrahamic religions, dismissing the idea of a white God as their own.
According to Kuti, such a God, if living among us, would not be well-received, emphasizing the near-dictatorial nature often associated with this portrayal.
Further critiquing the negative portrayal of women in the Bible, Kuti highlighted the perceived bias against women, citing examples such as Eve, Delilah, and Jezebel as evidence.
He challenged the notion of envisioning God as a white man with specific physical attributes, suggesting that such imagery leads to spiritual disorientation.
Additionally, Kuti expressed a belief that Africans are destined for servitude in the temple rather than admission to heaven, referencing biblical passages from Revelations that, according to his interpretation, suggest a limited number of individuals from specific tribes gaining entry into heaven while others are relegated to servitude.
Kuti’s remarks shed light on his critical examination of religious depictions and their implications for African communities.
