As we count down to the December polls, the stakes are high across all sectors of the economy. This heightened tension follows the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto in Winneba, which aims to reset the country’s trajectory.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) also recently launched their manifesto in Takoradi, drawing considerable reaction. Their plan outlines a new path to address economic challenges, which have been exacerbated by setbacks in domestic debt management and public dissatisfaction.
From the campaign trail, expectations are high regarding how the NDC’s economic document will address the urgent needs of struggling Ghanaians.
Looking ahead, Malik Basintale, Deputy Communications Officer for the NDC, has stated that Ghana will undergo a significant reset under their flagbearer, John Mahama, if he is elected in the upcoming general election.
Basintale emphasized that an NDC administration under Mahama would aim to restore economic and social gains that have been eroded under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“President Mahama has identified the key issues: he recognizes the hardship, the unemployment, the high cost of living, the weak dollar, and the rising petrol prices,” Basintale said, highlighting the areas Mahama plans to address.
This statement was made ahead of the NDC’s manifesto launch in Winneba, Central Region, scheduled for Saturday.
Basintale further noted that Mahama has been actively engaging with stakeholders such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and victims of collapsed banks to devise practical solutions for the nation’s challenges.
He expressed confidence that the solutions crafted by Mahama and the NDC will alleviate the country’s current economic difficulties by 2025, bringing much-needed relief to Ghanaians.
