The Director of Special Projects and Communications for the Musicians Union Of Ghana [MUSIGA], Daddy Bosco , the late Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti started Afrobeat at Adabraka in Accra.
Fela Kuti is known as the originator of Afrobeat, a genre that has achieved significant global success. However, this claim has been subject to controversy, as Jamaican Dancehall legend Buju Banton criticized the genre as “uninspiring” and questioned its ability to empower Africans, despite its worldwide success.
On a television talk show called “The Chat,” Daddy Bosco explained Fela Kuti’s connection to the Afrobeat genre, stating that Fela Kuti knew Highlife even before he went to London and then met with people like Ebo Taylor.
Fela Kuti stayed in Ghana in the late 60s and honed his craft in Adabraka, where he was influenced by Highlife and jazz, leading to the creation of his Afrobeats.
“The Chat,” hosted by Ekow Koomson, airs every Saturday on Channel One TV from 6:30 pm to 8 pm and will feature Lyrical Joe in the upcoming episode.
