Leading up to the December 7 general election, there’s a strong call for journalists and media houses to play a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s peace and democracy.
Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, CEO of Universal Multimedia encompassing Radio One 100.7 and Ahotor 92.3 FM, emphasized this during his visit to Ahotor FM, speaking with Emmanuel Romeo Tetteh.
For a smooth electoral process, he stressed that journalists need deep knowledge of election timelines, methods, and laws.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo praised journalists for their past efforts in ensuring successful elections.
He highlighted that elections are about candidates and those empowered to choose them.
He noted a tendency among the media to lose focus by excessively covering candidates instead of pressing issues that matter to citizens.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo urged the media to spotlight challenges like equitable access to the electoral process and focus on decision-makers.
The former NDC Chairman advised journalists to practice objective reporting, avoid sensationalism, and prioritize truth and professionalism in their work, especially as the 2024 General elections approach.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo challenged journalists to hold politicians accountable by demanding evidence for their claims and not to propagate unsubstantiated statements on air.
