Lilwin has been released on bail by the Asokore Mampong District Court with a bail amount set at GHS 50,000 and two sureties.
His release follows his arrest in connection with a fatal accident that resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.
The actor is due to appear in court again on June 27, 2024. Lilwin was arrested on Monday, June 3, 2024, after being discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.
The incident took place on May 25 in Amakom, Kumasi, just hours before the premiere of his movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana’. Reportedly, the young victim, Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah, was in the front passenger seat of his father’s car when Lilwin’s AMG Mercedes Benz crashed into it.
Eyewitnesses claim that the actor was driving at high speed when the collision occurred. Tragically, Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah passed away from his injuries while being treated at the hospital later that day.
Following the news of Lilwin’s bail, there have been various reactions from the public expressing dissatisfaction with the decision.
Some have voiced concerns over the perceived preferential treatment for individuals with means, while others have criticized the police and expressed disbelief at the bail amount.
