Atebubu-Amanti’s Member of Parliament, Sanja Nanja, is raising concerns about the Electoral Commission’s(EC) decision not to permit party representatives at the ongoing voter transfer exercise centers.
He feels the EC is sidelining key stakeholders in preparation for the 2024 elections. Hon. Nanja expressed his surprise at seeing long queues at the transfer centers and questioned why outsiders should influence the election of local representatives.
He criticized those transporting people from other areas to vote, stating it harms the nation.
Hon. Nanja’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), opposes the EC’s directive, fearing it could lead to unfair voter transfers and potentially gerrymandering. This concern arose after a clash between NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters at a Kasoa Electoral Commission office.
The Atebubu-Amantin legislator urged the EC to reconsider its decision and allow party agents at the centers to identify outsiders being brought in to vote illegally.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem’ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, he called on Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensah to ensure fair practices and build trust with political parties.
He criticized some of Jean Mensah’s actions, believing they are detrimental to the country’s democratic process.
