The Black Starlets: The Future of the Black Stars
CAF General Coordinator Ibrahim Sanni Dara has emphasized the potential of the current Black Starlets team as the foundation for the Ghana national senior team, the Black Stars, if given adequate support and resource.
In an interview on another platform, former GFA Communication Director who is currently the CAF General Coordinator Sanni Dara expressed that per assessment of the performance of the Ghana U-17 in the ongoing Wafu Zone B u-17 tournament, he is optimistic that if this team is given the necessary support and resources , they will be the base’s to feed the Ghana senior national team, Black Stars.
By investing in the Black Starlets, Ghana can create a seamless pipeline of talent that feeds into the Black Stars, ensuring that the senior team remains competitive on the international stage
The Black Starlets have a storied history, having won the FIFA U-17 World Cup twice, in 1991 and 1995 but failed to qualify for the last edition of the African cup of nations. This legacy of success highlights the deep pool of young talent that exists in Ghana. However, translating this early promise into senior success has been a challenge, often due to insufficient investment in youth development and infrastructure.
The Black Starlets recorded a 2-0 win over their Benin counter parts in the ongoing Wafu Zone B U-17 tournament and are through to the next stage of the competition.
