Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the former Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent remarks about incentivizing churches instead of taxing them, likening him to comedian Lilwin. Boateng suggested that Dr. Bawumia’s statements have transformed him into a comedic figure in the eyes of Ghanaians.
During a gathering with the Clergy in the Northeast Region as part of his national tour, the Vice President attempted to clarify his earlier comments, stating they might have been misunderstood. Dr. Bawumia explained that he intended to acknowledge the significant contributions of churches and other faith-based organizations to the country, such as building schools and hospitals, and propose support for further development efforts.
In an interview on Ahotor 92.3 FM‘s ‘Simpieso‘ show hosted by Emmanuel Martey, Tawiah Boateng criticized Dr. Bawumia’s credibility, alleging that he frequently lies and lacks the qualities necessary for presidential leadership. He advocated for the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama as the better candidate to lead Ghana towards progress.

Mr. Boateng also raised concerns about the recent inauguration of the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi by President Akufo-Addo. Despite the elaborate ceremony, Boateng questioned the wisdom of opening a project still under construction, emphasizing the impracticality of launching a facility that is not yet fully operational.
