Stolen BVR kits may lead to illegal registrations. Speak up now for a peaceful 2024 election – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains skeptical about the whereabouts of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits at the Electoral Commission (EC). Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia asserts that transparency hinges on the EC providing the serial numbers of these devices, underscoring their suspicions.

At a press conference held in Accra on Thursday, May 9, Asiedu Nketia voiced the party’s concerns. In response, the EC’s Director of Public Affairs cited security risks associated with releasing such information.

In a statement released the same day, the EC underscored the importance of BVR Kits in the electoral process, stressing the necessity of their serial numbers for activation codes and tracking. Disclosing these to external entities, including political parties like the NDC, poses a significant security risk, according to the EC.

Asiedu Nketia perceives the EC’s reluctance as reinforcing their suspicion of hidden agendas leading up to the 2024 election. He expressed surprise at what he views as the Commission’s indifference to the NDC’s efforts to safeguard the registration process.
