Asonaba Nana Owiredu, Deputy Secretary of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, declared that the association has decided to halt the anticipated rise in transport fares, as stated earlier in the week.
Earlier, a joint statement from the Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana had announced an impending increase in transport fares, set to take effect from Saturday, April 13.
However, Mr. Owiredu, speaking with Nana Dogbe, host of Ahotor 92.3 FM’s Yepe Ahunu program on Saturday, April 13, urged his fellow drivers to hold off on implementing the fare hike.
He mentioned that discussions were underway between all the unions and the transport ministry to come to a mutual agreement regarding the fare increase.
Nonetheless, Mr. Owiredu clarified that there would indeed be a fare increase in the near future, though not on April 13 as previously indicated.
“There will be an increase, but not on April 13,” he stressed.
He further explained that a new directive regarding the proposed fare hike would be communicated to all stakeholders by next week, following the ongoing deliberations.
