NPP has weak candidates for their presidential primaries – Prof. Kobby Mensah

It is very sad and unfortunate the caliber of candidates the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is putting up for their Presidential primaries is too weak to carry the importance of leadership Ghanaians are looking up to at these challenging times.

They should have done better to put a better candidates looking at the reality of the performance of the seven years of the NPP in government, and the dynamics and electoral maturity in the country, the party should have done better.

The four candidates going for the contest were part of the economic rot and injustices in the country coupled with the incompetent leadership; and what verdicts they can ride on to convince us to vote for them.

The verdict is in the hands of the delegates to make this decision, but then before Ghanaians, their performance is very low.

A Political Marketing Strategist Prof. Kobby Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School discloses this on Adekye Mu Nsem’s morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM in Accra hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu.

He is of the view that the candidates going in for the contest cannot bring any change, since they have not demonstrated in their various capacities for the past seven years to bring any meaningful development into the country.

Prof. Kobby Mensah reiterated that, though the outcome of the presidential primaries is skewed to favor Dr. Mahamdu Bawumia, he believes he is not assertive enough to stand tall as a good leader, where he refused to demonstrate during the difficult times of the country.

He opined that, politically his personal vision he espoused to be himself could not work since, most of the policies such as production to taxation, and electronic “momo” transaction tax, turned out to be a failure under his watch as the head of the government economic team.

Prof. Kobby Mensah, in his opinion, said the outcome of the NPP presidential polls cannot bring any surprise even though the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyepong is urging with his grassroots support, speaking to powers and the government’s abysmal performance, the structure put in place is to favor Dr. Bawumia to be victorious.

Though Dr. Bawumia has its own vision; NPP as a unit, image, and brand is gone in the eyes of Ghanaians with respect to credibility and trust. In his conviction, the delegates are worried about going into 2024 with weak candidates to meet John Dramani Mahamah of the National Democratic Congress.

Prof. Kobby Mensah, emphatically states that, though the 2024 presidential election is going to be tough, the abysmal performance of the NPP has made John Dramani Mahamah look as the best alternative from public perception to win the presidential election.
