Former National Chairman of Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has alleged that President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo whose Attorney General is Yeboah Dame has already convicted Hon James Gyakye Quayson because he could already foretell that, the outcome of the trial is a prison sentence.
According to him, the President told Assin North constituents of how a candidate cannot work from prison hence they should vote otherwise, and that is where everyone has an issue, for the President to talk like that on a matter before the court.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotor FM, Mr. Mornah indicated that, if someone is not convicted how do you talk about the sentence? Therefore, the President has prejudiced the case of James Gyakye Quayson which is before the court of law.
He said that meant, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson cannot be fined, cautioned, or otherwise but rather go to prison, but still, the Assin Noth constituents says prison or no prison they will vote for Gyakye Quayson.
He asked if the outcome of the by-election is not enough for them to stop the case.
The High Court in Accra has ruled that the ongoing criminal trial of the Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, will be heard daily starting from Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
The court decided to hear the case daily upon the request of the lawyer of Gyakye Quayson, Justin Terriwajjah, after the presiding judge, Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, turned down an application for the trial to be adjourned.
