The Member of Parliament for the Ashaiman Constituency Ernest Henry Norgbey has condemned the acts of brutality perpetrated against some residents of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region by the military.
Residents of Ashaiman were on Tuesday dawn left in shock when a battalion of military personnel besieged the community to avenge the murder of a 22-year-old soldier in the area.
Some were beaten and a number of them got arrested and are currently held in an unknown location.
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 Fm’s morning show, Hon. Norgbey attributed the military’s actions to years of militarisation of the state and unchecked impunity.
“The act of molesting innocent people, torturing them, beating men and women, women who are going to market and so you think a woman too can kill somebody at that midnight so you have to slap a woman, I mean children, how can you knock on people’s door, bring them out from bed to beat them, I condemned the Military brutalities at Ashaiman yesterday”.
