With just sixteen days into January in 2023, the Ashanti region has recorded over 90 fire incidents with three casualties leaving several others with various degrees of injuries.
The glaring figures is a cumulative fire incidents which have occurred in the first half of January, a situation the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has described as worrying.
They have cautioned the public to take fire safety protocols serious to avoid a dire situation.

Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show, GhanAkoma Monday, January 16, 2023, regional Public Relations Officer for the GNFS DO3 Peter Addai noted “we are just few days into this year but we have recorded over ninety fire incidents with three casualties and other several injuries. We are cautioning the general public to be vigilant and follow all safety protocols to reduce the surging fire incidents in the region.”
The recent incident which occurred at Apromoase in the Oforikrom Municipality took the lives of an officer with the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, his wife and a three-month old child.
Indentified as Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, 35, and wife, Yaa Achiaa, together with their three-month old baby were burnt to death beyond recognition in the Sunday night inferno.
DO3 Peter Addai further advised for prompt call to the right numbers of the GNFS when fire torches homes and other places to ensure immediate response to douse them to protect lives and property.
