Minority leader in Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has lamented the weak efforts of the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo on his effort in fighting corruption after setting up the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
His comment comes after the OSP issued a statement concerning the condition of service of the Special Prosecutor (SP) Kissi Agyabeng and his staff.
According to the letter, the special prosecutor is yet to receive salary after assuming office for sixteen (16) months.
Commenting on this, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South constituency said the office is simply not functional. According to him, even the former special prosecutor Martin Amidu has still not been paid since he left office and that indicates that Akufo-Addo is not ready to fight corruption as propagated.
According to him, he is not surprised with the action of the government because it indicates how weak the government wants to fight corruption in the country.
Hon. Iddrisu said he appreciate the work of the special prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng but the resources are not there for him to do the needful and to function much more effectively.
“I am profoundly disappointed in Nana Addo Danquah and his handling of this matter and our committee on constitutional and legal affairs will take up this matter much more seriously”, he added.
