The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman constituency, Thomas Ampem Darko has described as outrageous government’s debt restructuring
This debt restructuring will see a slash in interest payments for domestic bondholders to zero percent in 2023 and five percent in 2024
Existing domestic bonds as of December 1, 2022 will also be exchanged for a set of four new bonds maturing in 2027, 2029, 2032
Contrary to government’s point on burden sharing as claimed, Hon Ampem Darko in an interview with Ahotor news indicated, government is not setting the pace through it’s actions to show that truly we are in difficult times and we need to burden share
“Is it the right time to spend more than GHC 400 million on National Cathedral, is that our priority?
“The action of the president and his Ministers do not show there is economic hardship in the country which we all need to burden share”
He said, he expected any responsible government to put things in place to ensure how revenue will be available to service those debts when the time is due
He assured, the minority in Parliament will do everything possible to ensure the right thing is done by this government
