Nana Yaa Jantuah , General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party ( CPP) has refuted assertions that, President Akufo Addo prior to the 2016 elections promised to stop Galamsey Fight and operations by putting his job on the line. And that she is not the person making claims for the President to resign.
News portals on Thursday was awashed with several headlines attributed to the general secretary of the CPP to the effect that she has called on President Akufo Addo to resign over his inability to clampdown on Galamsey Activities if he assume office.
Government upon ascending to the throne instituted measures to tackle the menace but have been futile according to critics of government. Millions of Ghana cedis have been spent to fight the activities but still A lot more need to be done to stem the operations. President Nana Addo have been heavily criticized for failing to fight the activities after six years of being in government.
Operation Galamstop amongst other measures were earmarked by the ministry of lands and natural resources to go after persons involved in the act. Though several news items emerged about high profile persons in the affairs of the illegal act.
Nana Yaa Jantuah opined on Adekye Mu Nsem breakfast show that, the government have lost the political will and commitment to fight the menace and had gone ahead to waste taxpayers money in an attempt to canvass policy drivers to develop comprehensive roadmap to clampdown on the menace.
She stated that appointttes of government must desist from attacking persons who demand accountability from government regarding the eradication of illegal mining activities popularly called Galamsey.
” I am not the one who said the President should resign , he made the promise himself to resign if he fail to stop Galamsey” she added
Government recently stated that it is putting in measures to review processes and operational guidelines about the fight on the illegal mining activities after the latter failed to yield the desired results.
Water bodies are worst hit by the illegal mining activities amid pollution and thereby depriving thousands of inhabitants access to portable drinking water for both domestic and commercial purposes in areas where water connectivity is not available.
The Ghana Water Company Limited have issued complaints about the turbigity of sources of water which have affected cost of Production in line within their operations.
The general secretary of the CPP has called on President Akufo Addo to resign since he has failed to deliver on several promises made during his tenure in opposition.
