Sim Reregistration Deadline: ‘Communication ministry only blowing hot air – Tain MP

The Member of Parliament for Tain Constituency and Ranking member on parliament’s communication committee, Hon Adama Sulemana has said, the Minister responsible for communication, digitalization and innovation, Hon Ursula Owusu Ekuful is only blowing hot air on the sim reregistration deadline she announced on July 31, 2022

He explained to Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu during a phone interview August 2, 2022 that, the NIA lacks the necessary logistics to ensure majority of Ghanaians acquire their cards before the September 30 deadline

Hon Sulemana indicated that, it seems the Minister is pressuring Ghanaians to do something that will make the policy loose it’s credibility

He was responding to the comment by the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority, Prof Kenneth Attafuah indicating that his outfit is not established to operate by deadlines but rather in perpetuity

The Tain law maker stated that, the executive secretary has confirmed the very issues the minority has been raising

He therefore urged the communication minister to coordinate with the National Identification Authority (NIA) to enable them find better ways to ensure majority of Ghanaians acquire the Ghana card to enable them reregister their sim cards or make it possible for another identification card to be used for the registration else the September 30, 2022 deadline wouldn’t be possible from the look of things
