One person has been shot to death, while four others have been admitted to the Wa Municipal Hospital after sustaining injuries from gunshots.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon after some youth clashed with a 61-year-old man in Wa over a parcel of land.
The unfortunate incident happened at about 1:00 pm when some Youth from Kabanye, a suburb of Wa clashed with the 61-year-old, identified as Inusah Abdul Rahman over a parcel of land along the Wa-Kumasi highway.
Sources say the youth had gone to stop some workers from developing the land when the 61-year-old supposed owner believed to have hired the workers appeared with a pump-action gun and started firing sporadically at them.
The youth, according to the source, however, escaped unhurt, but the bullets got five innocent commuters who were plying the Wa-Kumasi road.
They were rushed to the Wa Municipal Hospital, where a 64-year-old retired lecturer of the Dr. Hilla Liman Technical university, identified as Stephen Mane, was pronounced dead.
When the media visited the hospital, three of the victims were on admission while one was rushed to the theater for an operation.
The Upper West Regional police CID has apprehended the 61-year-old gun-wielding man pending investigations.
He has been identified as Abdul Rahman Inusah
The Upper West Regional Commander, DCOP Peter Ndekugri Anumbugre, said the suspect had claimed he acted in self-defence.
“In fact, he told me personally that he was under attack and so there was nothing he could do to save his life than to bring out the gun to fire at them and scare them.”
“I cannot take his word. After investigations, we will put him before the court and we will see how best that case can go,” DCOP added
