The former board secretary for the Komenda Sugar Factory Ransford Vanni-Amoah, has given account on the considerations which went into the establishment of the Komenda Sugar Factory on AHOTOR FM breakfast show on Wednesday 3/03/2022, with Citizen Kofi Owusu.
Ransford Amoah detailing the rationale behind the factory said the initiative fall within the developmental drive Of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
He stated that for the past 5 years the machines and equipments have been idle and left to rust under the mercy of the weather and he doubt if the assurance given by President Nana Addo will meet the April 22 deadline for the factory To Be operationalized.
The factory which was constructed during the erstwhile NDC administration led by John Dramani Mahama in to the tune of $ 36.5million has been left to rot at the mercy of the weather due to operational deficit and non-availability of sugar cane, as the main source of raw materials.
President Nana Addo recently stated that government is committed to ensure the factory begins operation in April 22nd, 2022.
But reacting to the issue Mr Vanni-Amoah reiterated that it will take a magic wand for the factory to assume full operation since the equipments need to undergo overhauling and repairs works, before it will be able to function on its required capacity.
After commissioning the factory by Former President John Drammani Mahama in May 30 , 2016 respectively.
The factory managed to produce about 100 bags of sugar before it became redundant and dormant. Similarly it was expected the factory would generate over 7000 jobs for both direct and indirect beneficiaries residence in the Central Region and beyond.
