The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of three residents of Takoradi, the Western Regional capital for faking a kidnapping incident and demanding GH¢5,000 ransom.
According to the Takoradi Divisional Police Command, the three suspects are Joana Krah, aged 29, Susana Awortwe, aged 27, and Francis Eshun, aged 27.
In a press statement issued on Monday, October 25, 2021, the police revealed the details of the story.
“The Takoradi Divisional Police Command has arrested three suspects, Joana Krah, aged 29, Susana Awortwe, aged 27, and Francis Eshun, aged 27 for allegedly faking a kidnap and demanding a ransom or Five-Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS5,000.00).”
“Reports indicate that suspect Joana Krah conspired with the other two suspects Susana Awortwe and Francis Eshun to feign her kidnapping on Friday, October 22, 2021, after which a call was placed to her adopted father to demand the ransom.”
“When Joana became aware that her adopted father had reported to the police and an extensive search had commenced to find her, she showed up at the Takoradi Central Police Station, Saturday, October 23, 2021, to confess of only joking with her adopted father that she was kidnapped.”
The advent of people faking their kidnapping has been rampant in the Takoradi metropolis, the police have said. Just recently, a woman was arrested for faking her kidnapping and pregnancy in Takoradi which became a piece of national news.
