Residents of Sekondi Takoradi donates blood

Residents of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis on Tuesday trooped to the MTN office in the central business district of Takoradi to voluntarily donate blood to support the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The blood donation exercise initiated by the MTN Ghana Foundation has contributed over 3,715 pints of blood to support the National Transfusion Services and other regional hospitals.

Mr Simon Amoh Senior Manager, South West Business District of MTN Ghana, said the annual blood donation exercise has helped to increase blood stock levels in the country.

He said the perennial blood shortage kindled the Foundation to support and save lives by instituting the yearly exercise.

Currently, all the ten regional capitals were conducting the donation exercise under the “Save a life Project” of the Foundation, he added.

Mr Amoh said, “we owe it a duty to create awareness for voluntary blood donation and to encourage all eligible persons to continue to donate blood regularly “.

Mr Cudjoe Blay, Deputy Chief Blood Donor Officer of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, told the Ghana News Agency that the Regional office was not able to carry out its mandate effectively due to the lack of equipment.

He therefore expressed appreciation to institutions and religious organizations which continued to support the facility to save lives.
