Kumasi traders refuse to relocate for fear of losing shops (audio)

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is struggling to relocate the traders and begin reconstruction of the Kumasi Central Market which is expected to cost $ 278 million which began in 2019.

The traders have refused to relocate slowing down the rate of the market construction covering over 172m square metres of land including 5,400 cold stores, 800 kiosks and 50 restaurants, 220 stores, police station, a Fire station, a post office and a hospital among others.

This is expected to create over 9,000 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs.

This was expected to have been completed but 2 years agitations but the action of some traders have slowed down the projects.

The Vice Chairman of the Kumasi City Market who doubles as the Asantehene representative on the Kumasi Development Project, Nana Agyenim Boateng says the traders are just being recalcitrant thereby impeding the project.

Some traders express their concerns adding that, they might lose their shops if they move to the new market,
