A three- time management member and former Operations Director for Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club, Mr Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has stated that, the Board Chairman of Kotoko, was given the club to run on a silver platter, and in spite of that he has failed in managing the affairs of the club to the admiration and satisfaction of the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfour Osei Tutu ll.
According to the former management member and politician, he noted that, it is not easy to be given such a huge opportunity of running a club like Kotoko but could not take advantage of it due to poor management . He emphasized to the point that “for one person to finance the club for all this while and for that matter, commend Dr Kwame Kyei for the huge investment done including the purchasing of players though he has failed willfully administratively ” he said !
Mr Yamoah Ponkoh made this statement in the wake of a three member committee formed by the owner of the club his Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu ll to investigate the current crises in the management of the club.
Kotoko was recently ordered by FIFA to pay a Tunisian club Esperance de Tunis $240,000 including interest for the transfer of former striker Emmanuel Clottey in January 2015 whiles Kotoko also claimed monies owed them for similar offence involving the transfer of Kwame Bonsu to Esperance in July 2019.
A section of the fans have also called for the head of the Board Chairman which has necessitated the formation of a three member committee.
Dr Kwame Kyei was handed over the helm of affairs of Kotoko in November 2016 and has since bought over fifty (50) players for the club and hiring eight managers respectively.
