Account on security attacks on civilians during the lockdown – Francis Xavier tells govt

Human Rights Lawyer and National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for the Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu is calling on government to account to the people of Ghana on what has been done to seek justice for victims of brutality during the lockdown period in Greater Accra and Great Kumasi, Tema and Kasoa areas.

The development of a joint Police and Military Forces to enforce the COVID-19 restrictive measures recorded some excesses including the gun down of a civilian at Ashaiman by a soldier, but Francis Xavier Sosu is surprised that no official report has been issued on the investigation, and other human rights breaches during the lockdown, and wants government to account for the citizen.

On Ahotor 92.3 fm news, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu noted that, during the lockdown there were numerous viral video showing Military Forces and Police brutalizing and infringing on the rights of citizens and that government should call for action and give hope that citizen rights are not infringed upon.

He further said, although there is an enforcement of law, but in the enforcement if anyone should infringe on the other person’s right, that person has to go through the law for judgment.

Mr Sosu disclosed that, a petition has been written to the Center for Commission of Human Right and Administrative Justice to complain about human rights breaches and violations which happened during the lockdown, so that citizen are protected,
