Africa receives $4 billion interest relief

The President, Nana Akufo –Addo has announced the receipt of a five hundred million dollar (500 million dollar) freeze in interest on its debt servicing, up till the end of the year from the World Bank.

This is part of the Pan –African effort for the continent’s debt relief due to the covid-19 pandemic on the economic structures of the continent.

The President earlier on, in his 7th national address on the strategy on the pandemic, hinted on a team led by Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and his South African counterpart to seek for the debt relief.

He said, the effort has yielded a nine months freeze from the World Bank for its qualifying States of the International Development Association from next month.

The total amount for the participating countries is forty-four billion dollars ($44, 000,000,000)
