The Omanhene of Chonke Traditional Area, Dasebre Atamafowiese Kwame II, has closed the Dambai market in the Krachi East Municipality and Grubi, Chinderi and Borae markets in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region.
This step is aimed at reducing further spread of the coronarivirus infection after the region recorded 9 (nine) cases.
The market attracts traders from the adjoining towns including Togo on specials days.
Dasebre Atamafowiese said, the decision was a collaborative effort between the traditional Councils and the Assemblies.
He said traders from other COVID-19 hit areas, which were not under lockdown were likely to come to the markets if they were not close down, which could lead to the spread of the disease
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East, Patrick Jilima Chartey, said inspite of the numerous warnings to the traders, they did not live by the protocols of the Ghana Health Service, and therefore had no choice than to close down those markets.
He urged the people to adhere to the World Health Organization’s safety protocols of washing hands regularly under running water, cover their nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing and ensure social distancing.
