National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says, members of his Association have been advised to adhere to all protocols on the transmission and prevention of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Kwame Kumah said, discussions are far advance in incorporating the President’s directive to reduce the number of passengers and change the sitting arrangement of passengers in commercial cars, as a means of reducing the possible rate of infection of the covid-19
Ghana has recorded 68
cases of coronavirus after 15 more persons who were mandatorily quarantined by
the government tested positive.
According to the Ghana Health Service, “The sudden spike
in case incidence is as a result of the mandatory quarantine and compulsory
testing for all travelers entering Ghana, as directed by the president.
“Overall, 30 of the 68 cases have been reported in the
general population with the remaining 38 cases among persons currently under
mandatory quarantine.
As of 24 March, total of
1,030 persons are under mandatory quarantine; samples from 863 of them have
been tested and 38 confirmed positive.
“In respect of contact tracing, a total of 829 have been
identified and are being tracked.
Mr. Kumah in an
interview on Ahotor morning show added that, as a Union they will also put some
measures in place to ensure the President’s directive is achieved.
Mr Kumah however raised concerns with the reduction of passengers the commercial cars have to take, as that would affect their loan payment rates.
Explaining that, lots of drivers have taken auto loans and have timelines to pay, based on daily returns and pleaded with the government for any intervention.
