Hassacas Ladies wins NC Women’s Special Competition
Three times National Women League champions, Hassacas Ladies put up a sterling performance to beat Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-2 in the finals of the maiden Normalization Committee Women’s Special competition at the El Wak Stadium on Sunday.
The game, saw Coach Yussif Basigi’s girls, come from behind to beat Ampem Darkoa to win the coveted trophy, as they rallied from two goals down to beat Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-2.
Ampem Darkoa scored first in the 10th minute, but was disallowed by referee Joyce Appiah for an offside goal.
Ampem Darkoa’s Ophelia Serwah Amponsah opened the scores with a superb strike after sending a long ball to beat Hasaacas goalkeeper Faustina Nyamekye Owusu in the 19th minute.
The Dormaa-based side kept pushing and were gifted with another through pass, as defender Mavis Owusu who capitalised on Hassaca’s goalie blunder, after a long ball flipped through her fingers to gift her opponent the second goal.
Just when everyone thought it was a done deal for the Nanamma Ladies (Ampem Darkoa), Hassacas Ladies, Evelyn Badu responded quickly to pull one back for her side with a beautiful goal to give the needed hope.
On the stroke of first half, Black Maidens’ influential player sent in a thunderous strike to pull parity for Hassacas Ladies.
From recess, Ampem Darkoa started pilling pressure on the defence of their opponent built around Linda Eshun and Janet Egyiri, however, the defenders gallantly defended to denied them from scoring.
Ophelia Amponsah got a golden opportunity to grab the match winner for Ampem Darkoa, but she was stopped by Hasmal Ladies goalie, Evelyn Yeboah.
Eshun, in the 74th minute, sent a powerful shot which was blocked by an Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ player Justice Tweneboah and resulted in a penalty.
Captain and top scorer of the competition, Pepertual Agyekum scored to bring Yussif Basigi’s side the deserved lead. The goal put her on nine goals in the competition.
With some few minutes to end proceedings, the rains started pouring but both sides stayed focused to avoid more goals.
At the end of the competition, Hassacas Ladies pocketed Gh¢50,000.00 for their efforts, whilst the runner up got Gh¢30,000.00.
Halifax ladies Constance Serwah Agyemang won the discovery of the tourney, whereas the goal queen award went to captain Perpetual Agyemang after scoring nine goals for Hassacas.
Ampem Darkoa duo Evelyn Yeboah and Grace Asantewaa won the best goalie and best player respectively.
For their efforts, all the individual awardees grabbed Gh¢2,000.00 for their tremendous display.
